Our Creative Arts and Writing Day

On Wednesday the 22nd of October we had a creative arts and writing day as part of our Heritage scheme. Our aim for the day was to make natural art work which represents our heritage using materials found within our school grounds.

The day begun with an exciting trip around our very autumnal fields and gardens, we collected a wide range of materials - leaves, acrorns, fir cones, feathers, horse chestnuts, reeds and much more.

We returned to the classroom and analysed our finds, we then had to choose whether to make a dream-catcher, scultpure, mobile or collage.

After drawing up a detailed plan, we were off. In a flurry of feathers, aprons, newspapers and glue we created some masterpieces, which you can see below.

Following all that excitement we decided it was time to focus on the writing part of the day. We wrote detailed instructions of how we created our natural art. We spent some time discussing interesting methods of presentation and eventually produced some very creative write-ups.

Overall, a fabulous day was had by all. The weather held out for us and we enjoyed the opportunity to experience and work with our natural heritage.

Years Five and Six followed a P.E. dance unit based around sleep and Dreamcatchers.

They followed this theme by using the materials found in the school grounds to create their own Dreamcatchers.

The children then wrote instructions in Literacy describing how to make a Dreamcatcher from natural materials.
