Pennington parents were gathered at the school on Wednesday 23rd June 2004 to be entertained by poems, songs, dances, plays, stories and musical recitals as teachers and pupils celebrated the official opening of the amphitheatre.

Unfortunately, inclement weather meant that the ceremony had to take place in the school hall. However, a slide show depicting the development of the site was projected onto the wall for everyone to see.

Former pupil, Mervyn Cole, a local children's entertainer, officially opened the amphitheatre with the help of his friend, Larry the Lion. All the pupils took part in the celebrations as each class presented a song ,poem ,dance or story from different cultures.

Mrs Hilary Flaxman, Headteacher, said "The amphitheatre is the latest addition to our school grounds improvement project. We hope the Infant School and other local groups will benefit from this super addition to our school."
